Where the Rubber Hits the Road

http://westernperspective.blogspot.com/

The Values March in Washington DC this weekend marks the beginning of a new era. Ostensibly a disparate group of Americans each having their own issues, in actuality this was the first time in which the premises of Liberalism were seriously challenged. It reminds me of the small breaches that first arose in the flawed St. Francis Dam (pictured above) above the San Fernando Valley before the dam finally broke sending water crashing all the way out to the Pacific Ocean.

Liberals in both major political parties apparently just don't get that their time in government is coming to an end. Just last week, a California Assemblyman who supported family values was forced to resign for talking trash in front of an open microphone in the legislative chamber. This faux pas was a relatively minor infraction of decorum. In contrast, Congressman Joe Wilson is widely acclaimed for shouting out during the President's speech to a joint session of Congress. Both actions were inappropriate, yet the electorate can understand and appreciate the Congressman's frustration at the President's duplicity and obfuscations on health care.

What we are seeing is the beginning of a spiritual revival in which the social conservatives who have always opposed abortion are beginning to persuade the majority of citizens toward their way of thinking, because the alternative just doesn't work. As the majority shifts to oppose abortion, the tide is turning against liberalism. Americans will no longer tolerate egotism in government.

Helping People Help Themselves

http://westernperspective.blogspot.com/

Democrats begin with a misconception or flawed premise that diversity in government and in industry is always good. This may derive from flaws within the capitalist economic system.

It does no good to elect or appoint people to run a nation or enterprise based upon their ethnic differences. Individuals of minority status bear the burden of offering something of value to the majority culture. If they have nothing good to offer, they should not be given a free handout. That only results in dependency.

It is the responsibility of the people to secure peace, tranquility and happiness. Government at the local level can always offer assistance for people genuinely trying to help themselves. This is subsidiarity. Simply sending out more welfare checks doesn't solve anything. Federal and state government must therefore be reduced to only handling problems too complex to be handled at the local level.

The reform of health care is a local issue, not state or federal.

O'Bummer Economy

http://westernperspective.blogspot.com/
Mistakes always have consequences.

When G.W. Bush first took office and America was already too far in debt, VP Cheney believed that deficits don't matter.  What Bush did after September 11 was to commit America to spending an unlimited amount of money on a war that no one knew what it was about, and no one knew whether or not we could win.

Meanwhile, the Democrats in Congress led by Frank, Dodd and Pelosi, were creating a guaranteed insurance incentive for the financial sector to abandon good lending practices and start making bad loans to put minority and immigrant families in homes that they could not afford to live in, and where their neighbors did not want them to live next door anyway.  They simply do not have the skills to deserve living in upper middle class neighborhoods.  So naturally many of their homes were and are taken away in foreclosure.  The Democrats in Congress basically needed friends because they were so unpopular with ordinary Americans and for good reason.  This is really what redistribution does.

Government trying to stimulate the economy by spending or giving away to create demand is a ploy that simply doesn't work.
