President Obama's stopovers in Germany and France will do much to
heal the acrimony of war and religious persecution, calling to mind
President Kennedy's Berlin speech in 1963. Germany is key to the
revitalization of Europe. Obama's visits to Buchenwald and Dresden are
helpful to Germany in overcoming the guilt associated with past
mistakes. Obama is himself partly German, being descended on his
mother's side from a 17th century mayor of a town in Baden-Württemberg.
This may also explain his authoritarian style of government as an
inherited trait.
