It has been said that there is no shortage of coarseness in America.
Obviously David Letterman's crude comments about Sarah Palin and her
family are beyond the pale of ordinary decency.
In the past, the
FCC has levied fines against the network operators who allow profanity
on the airwaves. In Letterman's case, this will not solve the problem.
Letterman has shown no remorse for his wrongdoing. Instead, he joked
about it on his late night show.
Sports figures are usually
fined and suspended for violations such as steroid use. The FCC should
suspend Letterman from appearing on television or radio for at least
one year.
