Pat Buchanan claims Scotch & Irish ancestry from his father, German ancestry from his mother. According to genealogical research, his maternal ancestry goes back to an ancestor Margaretha Skiakovski married to Peter Heil. She is the earliest ancestor descending from mother to mother in Pat's maternal bloodline, possibly extending back to Poland indefinitely.
Some of my ancestors are on the genealogist's own pedigree, now deceased, who traced this family. These go back from Lorraine, to Provence, to Italy. However, there is no actual record of parentage for one ancestor in Lorraine, which can only be deduced from a heraldic device on the family arms, and other facts connecting the family with the parent family in Provence. This would indicate, through guess work, that my ancestry goes back to an older half-brother of Italian descent in Provence, or more likely an older brother from the second marriage for whom the family château in Lorraine was named, who was in the service of the Duc de Lorraine, with noble ancestry from his mother, and who was raised to the nobility of the Holy Roman Empire.
