Romney as Used Car Dealer

http://www.westernperspective.blogspot.com/

In downtown Los Angeles, there is a wall adjacent to one of the freeways commemorating the Mormon settlers who were brought across the prairies in covered wagons to provide a buffer against the Mexicans after our war with Mexico in 1847.  Since Mormons were discriminated against, and were being kicked out of states such as Missouri, they were willing to take that risk.

Mitt Romney's grandfather was born in northern Mexico descending from the Mormon settlers there.  His father George W. Romney owned a horse ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley wine country not far from what would be later Ronald Reagan's Rancho del Cielo.  George became manager of Automotive Manufacturers Association in Detroit, Michigan during WWII, and in 1954 CEO of the now defunct American Motors Corporation (AMC), maker of the ever popular Rambler economy automobile which he developed. In 1968, he would later become a presidential candidate in the Republican primaries, losing to Richard Nixon.  During that campaign, Romney visited South Vietnam and upon return, stated that he had been brainwashed and shifted his position to favoring an early withdrawal.  The brainwashing comment drew scorn from the establishment.  Was this a Romney flip flop? Today, it raises the question of whether John McCain actually was a Manchurian candidate in 2008.  Why else would  the chicken hawks have backed McCain so strongly even though he was ineligible to run? These same Dr. Strangeloves from Washington think tanks, carryovers from the failed free trade foreign policies of the Bush presidencies, Wolfowitz, Addington, Pletka, et al, were back in Washington earlier this week grilling the current crop of Republican hopefuls along with Wolf Blitzer. Where was Condi?

To make a long story short, the American people know that Mitt is a Mormon with many of the characteristics of a used car dealer like his father.  He is not a shill for the rich and famous.  He is one of the folks, patriotic Americans, soon to be added to the endangered species list.  That is why it is OK for Mitt to flip flop and change his positions at times.  In fact, the more Romney flip flops, the more support he draws from the majority who see through the pretentiousness of Newt Gingrich and the other sellouts.
