Rushbo's latest controversy focuses on his characterization of First Lady Michelle Obama as being uppity at a NASCAR event honoring our returning troops. This has been criticized in the mainstream media. One commentator blasts Limbaugh for making a cheap shot against her, because "uppity" generally connotes someone trying to make the person appear better or of a higher grade than in fact. This cannot apply to Michelle, so the story goes, because she is the First Lady and therefore deserves special recognition. In actuality however, Michelle was booed at the event. Putting Limbaugh's remarks in context, what Limbaugh actually said was that she habitually takes junkets by jet, always arriving with her children at the destination four hours earlier than her husband the president, who then arrives via another jet, thus unnecessarily generating additional travel expenses, and that no other presidential family has ever imposed this added cost onto the American people by making two trips where one would suffice, and that therefore she is uppity and deserving of being booed at the event.
