Is Tribalism All that Bad?

http://www.westernperspective.blogspot.com/

As Pat Buchanan reiterates in his new book, calling to mind Schlesinger's and Moynihan's earlier observations, the driving force in world events has now shifted away from global capitalism and democracy to tribal, ethno-nationalistic enclaves wherein each group protects its own. This tendency is most pronounced within Islamic states. Religion itself has become a dividing factor, although what is often overlooked is that the Gospel message is one of peace and reconciliation among diverse peoples and nations.

From a Christian point of view, John Paul II's view of capitalism praised the market economy as the best and most efficient means to increase production and provide for basic, material human needs such as food, shelter, clothing and medicine. At the same time, he pointed out the ways in which unfettered capitalism destroys human freedom and earth's vital resources. Pope Benedict XVI appears to have taken a harsher view toward capitalism, following the example of his paternal great-uncle Georg Ratzinger in Bavaria during the 1930's. From this perspective, the alienation produced in society by unrestrained capitalism and libertarianism generally has led to a society with ever increasing alcoholism and drug addiction, and with increasing sexual promiscuity, women choosing abortion as a way out. The good news in all of this is that abortions are on the decline which means that capitalists are beginning to get the message. While communism and its forerunner socialism are always antithetical with Christian values, it is a mistake to view capitalism as the only game in town for aspiring nations, or as a "one size fits all" global fix. Other non-socialistic economic systems may also be acceptable in years to come.

Capitalism is only justifiable to the extent that greed and exploitation are restrained, and must, in the new "Occupy Wall Street" jargon, place people over profits in prioritizing its goals. For this to become practical and effective in a world economy driven by ethnic, nationalistic and religious impulses, there must be a global political structure in place with enough power and influence to narrow the gap between rich and poor, and to restrain the destructive social and ecological effects of human greed upon our planet. This will be the role of the United Nations in the coming decades, as much of the world's population has bought into the capitalist model, and in which the USA will no longer be a majority white nation during the decades ahead.

In view of the rising global ethno-nationalism, patriotic Americans, regardless of race or gender, should strive to set up an all-male, predominantly white, elite intelligentsia aristocracy, including white Hispanics and males genetically of the Atlantic Modal type regardless of outward characteristics, while at the same time giving everyone equal opportunity in education and job placement, with tuition credits and genetic testing fast-tracking available for parents who want to give their children a superior education and a better future, to maximize the unique contribution and benefits provided by both genders and each ethnic group in society. There can be no equal distribution of wealth among unequal and disparate groups and individuals each going their own separate ways.
