The Alans are a historical people descending from the Iranian-speaking Sarmatians who have been identified with Ashkenaz, Magog etc., in the Book of Genesis.
Buchanan is right implying in a recent column that the the Alans of Ossetia and Abkhazia deserve national recognition. What could possibly have motivated our Senate to vote unanimously a resolution forcing these people with their own ethnic history and traditions to live under Georgian rule?
