While there may be political fallout (no pun intended) for centuries to
come generated over president Truman's decision to drop the atomic bomb
over Japan at the end of World War II, at least Truman took
responsibility for something that he believed was right. In contrast,
Barack Obama refuses to take responsibility for the consequences in
terms of loss of life of Operation Gunrunner aka Fast & Furious.
Obama told Mexico's president Felipe Calderone that the reason why he
did not give Calderone a heads-up of the weapons sales then in progress
across the border was because Obama himself was uninformed of the
action. This strains credibility. In law there is an expression "knew
or should have known". Or did he simply not want to know? If Obama did
not have actual knowledge, he sure as heck "should have known" about
what was going on during his watch.
Certainly this unorthodox weapons transfers resulting in loss of
countless lives on both sides of the border could never have taken place
without at least Eric Holder signing off as head of the Justice
Department. Such heavy responsibility could never be assumed by or
delegated to anyone lower on the food chain. So who bears ultimate
responsibility for this fiasco?
