The capture of Boston's notorious crime figure James "Whitey" Bulger and
his girlfriend at a Santa Monica apartment complex, and his upcoming
trial, will bring some closure to Bulger's many victims. Whitey, however,
will probably spend the rest of his life with excellent federal health
coverage provided courtesy of Obamacare.
Former Massachusetts governor William Weld essentially buckled under
pressure from the corrupt Democrat controlled Massachusetts legislature
by giving Whitey's brother, former Massachusetts state politician Billy
Bulger, a lucrative job as President of the University of Massachusetts
in 1996. After Mitt Romney was elected governor, he got Bulger and his
entourage to resign in 2003. Romney is capable of doing the same thing
to get rid of government corruption at the federal level. No other
Republican hopeful has enough guts to take on the hideous morass of
federal bailouts, prostitution, pornography, narcotics trafficking,
abortion, and other criminal activity which rewards those currently in
power.
By an unusual coincidence, my family's Irish origins go back to the same
source as one of the many South Boston families which Whitey
victimized. This is the family of Stephen "Stippo" Rakes whose surname
derives by pseudo-translation from O'Hanraghan, of which ours is from
another local form which was later adapted to reflect our American
culture, with families using either form bearing the same arms. Stippo
Rakes was forced by Whitey and a criminal associate Stephen "the
Rifleman" Flemmi, now behind bars, to surrender a business enterprise
which he and his family had just opened in South Boston in 1983.
