Intelligence and Evolution (Part IV)

http://westernperspective.blogspot.com/

So far, we have explored the adaptations of man in the Northern regions of Europe during the Ice Age. As climate change became more severe, the tribes gravitated to refuge locations to insure their survival. Here, mankind learned how to live in larger communities. As the glaciers began to melt, farming techniques and livestock were brought to Europe by immigrants from the Middle East who later became adept at financial dealings. One of the major refuge areas on the Russian steppes in present day Ukraine became the center for a high level of cultural development known as the kurgan culture for their unique style of burial.

The kurgan culture grew out of the interaction of two related tribal groups originating in the Altay mountains region of Asia. One group migrated west as far as Spain and Portugal for which they are known for their elaborate cave paintings. They intermarried with women of the local tribes. This we know from their DNA passed down to our own generation. The other group migrated east eventually reaching northern India where they became the Aryans including the Brahman nobility. The two cultures came into contact in east Europe before 3000 B.C. and mixed with other peoples including Semites from present day Iran, Finno-Ugric speaking people from north and east, and others from the Caucasus mountain region. From this kurgan culture came various innovations including the domestication of the horse, and it gradually spread throughout Europe and eastward as far as Persia, India and even China.

The Norse called the Ukraine region from which the kurgan culture arose Asgard. Warrior bands from this region soon spread, which included the Hellenes into Greece and the Trojans into Asia Minor. As their men inherited genes from thousands of generations coping with the cold Northern climate, they became better adapted at ruling those of the warm Mediterranean climate. The Mediterranean folk lived by trade and had a great deal of leisure time in which to develop philosophy, music, art and commerce. Out of this merger arose the great Western civilization of Greece and Rome.
