States Need More Tough Love

http://westernperspective.blogspot.com/

The best thing that could happen to California would be if the state had to declare bankruptcy. Of course many state bondholders would lose money because of a bad investment. But so would government workers and pensioners who are overpaid and reap exorbitant benefits and enjoy unseemly perks all at public expense.

When the conservative majority finally takes power in 2012 as many of us are hoping it will, cutting spending will have to start at the top down. This means substantial cuts in defense spending as a deterrent to war now that our government has chosen to weaken our fighting forces and turn them into sissies.

Get rid of the Federal Reserve, IRS, and Homeland Security. This can be done if Congress and the new president have the will to go back to our nation's founding principles. A good start is being made by the incoming Congress in spending time to actually read the Constitution out loud in its opening session. We must not overlook the national slogan "In God We Trust".

Congress can lay the groundwork this term to transfer power back into the hands of the people pursuant to putting subsidiarity into practice. Overspending states like California, Illinois, New York and New Jersey, after they default on their bad debts, will have to undergo a reconstruction process as folks begin to rebuild at the local level. This will be a painful process, but the only way to right the wrongs of decades of government abuses of power.

On the brighter side, there will be no more terrorist threats from alien shores once we take back political power from federal and state governments gone wild, because Americans have no quarrel with any foreign nation or people and we can choose to live at peace with the rest of the world.

On balance, America will come out ahead if we do the right thing today.
