My prior post dealt with possible north British origins for the Haran
clan of Ireland. Since then I have found a Y-DNA match of the Heron
surname in Ireland that matches the DNA of Haran of Sligo which
indicates common paternal ancestry. Both tested I2a, a rare Dinaric
type most common in Scotland. Heron is of Norman derivation in Great
Britain and often an appellation among the Romany people there. It is my
conclusion that Haran of Sligo was of this lineage which does not match
my Haran ancestry which would be that of Ó hEagráin as the deceased
poet of that name from West County Clare. That leaves me with my R1b
type as as being typical for the family group, which is logical insofar
as Haren is placed on a family map in NE County Clare. Do wonders never cease?
Finding out about family history through genetic research is essential in
reestablishing and strengthening familial ties forming the basis of
society, thereby reducing dependency on various levels of government,
and is the key to restoring democracy in America.
