The bishops give pastoral guidance and instruction. Catholic
politicians are not exempt from Church precepts. The most basic precept
of all is that of charity. The Church must counteract the mean
spirited, small minded attitudes of the world.
Ultimately, man's
fate is decided by God. The Church is God's instrument. There is always
disagreement in the world between those who choose to follow God's ways
and those who rebel against God. Charity necessitates that Christians
admonish those among us who are in error. This includes lawmakers and
others holding public office.
