The philosophical error that brought about the French Revolution
was based upon Rousseau's idea that humans are born basically good and
then become evil by corrupt social institutions. This overlooks the
constant struggle between good and evil which is the real condition of
man as a creature with free will.
The denial of free will is the
form of this struggle in the modern world. This is why in America the
majority of citizens are grossly under-represented in government. The
majority is forced to tolerate racial and ethnic minorities who then
clamor for more and more free government services. The struggle plays
itself out as the citizenry reasserts its power through an act of free
will, rejecting the false premises of tyranny.
Sarah Palin
represents the true American type of liberty and independence from
oppressive government. Her mixed racial family proves that the problem
is not whites against blacks or other people of color, as some would
have us believe. The challenge for America over the next decade will be
to peel away minority support for Obama, while giving the mainstream
majority a clear alternative to bureaucratic government.
The
majority will have to claim power at the local level, and in so doing,
attract minority constituents to join forces in solidarity. When people
realize that they don't really need federal and state subsidies, the
need for more and bigger government will disappear.
