The Mousavi supporters are simply expressing sour grapes over the turn
of the Iran election. In any election of that magnitude there is bound
to be some fraud. Unlike the 2000 US presidential election, the Iran
election was not even close.
Of course the US should be speaking
out forcefully showing solidarity with the opposition in Iran. Much of
this will ring hollow because of the American culture's lack of clearly
defined moral standards. Even the Shah's regime had trouble convincing
the Iranian people that Westernization was a good thing.
America's
role in the world is to bring about peace. This we cannot do when our
own nation is being held hostage and Americans are constantly subjected
to cultural garbage from within. Before America can reach our goal as
peacemaker, we must first deal with the powerful obstructionists at
home.
