Rev. John Jenkins is betraying the Body of Christ through his
invitation to Barack Obama, a known pro-choice abortion supporter, to
speak at the Notre Dame commencement ceremonies in May of this
year.
Bishop
John D'Arcy is right in boycotting the event. The Notre Dame Alumni
would do well to withhold all financial contributions to the
institution pending the outcome of this controversy. If Obama speaks
at the event without publicly reversing his positions on abortion and
embryonic experimentation on human beings, then Jenkins must go. This
is grounds for excommunication pursuant to canon law.
