The election of Barack Obama points America in a new direction, the result of our economic evolution.
As a society, America is behind Europe in our stages of economic development. Following Thorstein Veblen's paradigm, the Europeans are advancing toward socialism ahead of us as they were ahead of us in abolishing slavery. Karl Marx did not so much bring about social revolution as describe the process in minute and intricate detail. But regardless of the economic system under which we live, or the current stage of economic evolution, our goal should always be to strive for the ideal of bringing about social justice. This is what Jesus Christ taught us when he lived on our planet Earth.
God created the world to be self-correcting. When we as a society take away the right to life and allow innocent life to be destroyed, there will inevitably be consequences. One such consequence is the loss of individual liberty under socialism. Capitalism's over emphasis on efficiency and individual autonomy led people to become selfish and to regard new life as a burden or inconvenience, something that they could discard or throw away. The nations that have emerged from Communism, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe, now have the best chance of leading Europe and America to a new just society where life is cherished by all and protected by the state from the moment of conception until natural death.
